Daily Covet: Working Girl

No, no, it’s not what you think.

My friend, who suggested today at our lunch date, that I find her some work appropriate dresses, is not in fact, a prostitute.

It got me thinking though.  Since this working girl (me!) is no longer in a work force that enforces a dress code, I went looking.

Here are some great choices for you girls that are lucky enough to shower before noon (who are we kidding? I don’t shower until my kids go to bed!) and hang out with adults… who know lots of words… and don’t follow you to the bathroom… and can get their own juice…

But who ever said, 9 to 5 had to be buttoned up and stuffy?  Some of these darling dresses are classic styles in modern colors and prints… and there are one or two, for those days when you need to wear your “power suit” er… power dress.

Diane von Furstenberg New Jeanne Wrap Dress, Neiman Marcus $345

This is a must-have for every wardrobe.  A DVF wrap dress is the first and last word in women’s worktime dresses.  And she’s always throwing cool new prints into her knit bag of tricks!

David Meister Fold-Over Detail Dress, Neiman Marcus $395

Mark my words, you will see this color EVERYWHERE this fall.  So channel your inner Joan Holloway and put on this body concious stunner, with a structured black bag and classic black heels.

Magaschoni Ribbed Cashmere Turtleneck Dress, Neiman Marcus $225

This is about as sophisticated as it gets.  This dress means business, but is super body concious and not in the least bit stuffy.  Add knee-high boots and a bag that pops for maximum modern impact.

Lafayette 148 New York Faux-Leather-Trim Dress, Neiman Marcus $448

This little number is a little “Rock Star” with leather trim but a classic silhouette makes it tame enough for the office.  Classic chocolate pumps with a hint of irridescence would be perfect for this sheath.

Milly Elisabet Belted Silk Dress, Neiman Marcus $425

Who says you have to wear black, navy and grey to the office.  Some days, you need a bit of oomph to get you through the long day.  This Milly piece is a fun way to be appropriately covered, but in a style and print that says, “I march to the beat of my own damn drumb!”

Kay Unger New York Belted Print Dress, Neiman Marcus $210

This hot little number is my favorite.  So it’s a bit edgy but it oozes confidence and fearlessness.  And it’ll make you stand out among a bunch of stuffy  suits (i.e. men!)  Not to mention, it’s fabulously priced!!

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Stretch Cotton Shirtdress, Nordstrom $159

Ok, so there’s a day when you really need to exude classic elegance.  Maybe you are working with some old school folks, who won’t take you seriously in something a bit more modern.  You won’t go wrong in Ralph Lauren with gold buttons.  But it’s still so sleek – you’ll feel like a million bucks, while your getting them to donate theirs.

Trina Turk Sleeveless Print Dress, Nordstrom Sale $130

This little number is a super sassy and modern print with a knockout neck line.  Wear spring and summer with red slingbacks and chunky jewelry, and this is the perfect way to look cool and stay cool!
