Daily Covet: Totemania

I realize my last post was also about a certain black tote. But if you remember, my current fabulous tote is on it’s way to being un-fabulous due to worn out straps that will break at the sheer mention of putting my laptop in it.

So my search has turned to frenzy and I’ve already notified my dear husband that the next gift-giving opportunity should include one of many of the great totes I’ve laid eyes on lately.

Here’s my current list in addition to that nylon HUNTER one that I blogged about the other day:

Kate Spade Austin Varrick Street Suede, katespade.com

You can’t go wrong with Kate. She makes some pretty damn good bags. I should know, I have quite a few. I love this bag with the winged look that you can find on so many other bags, but at a fraction of the price. My only complaint is that it might be a bit dressy for my needs. I’m looking for the SAHM-everyday tote that won’t be seeing the inside of an office anytime in the near future.

Folded_Gusset_Leather_Tote_-_SaksOff5th

Zac by Zac Posen, Saksoff5th.com

This Zac Posen number is probably my favorite. It has a sophisticated vibe without being too dressy. It’s simple and roomy and the leather looks like it would feel like butter!

Jason_Wu_Christy_Leather_Shopper_Tote_Bag__Black

Jason Wu Christy Leather Shopper, lastcall.com

I should give the disclaimer that this Jason Wu beauty is my actual favorite but at over $1K a pop, it’s just not a practical choice. I’d be too scared to let a snack near it!

Neiman_Marcus_Greco_Two-Tone_Tote_Bag__Black

Neiman Marcus Greco Two Tone, lastcall.com

I’m a big fan of the two-tone detailing for obvious practical reasons and I love the long strap option, which I don’t have now and occasionally wish I did. A very good choice at a very good price.

Cole_Haan_Mila_Patent_Leather_Tote_Bag__Black

Cole Haan Mila Leather Tote, nordstromrack.com

You gotta love patent leather. It just makes a nice, black bag all the nicer. I love the gold hardware and the roomy handles. It looks sturdy too with plenty of room for my whole life that I lug around with me each day.

Daily Covet: Schwinn Wayfarer

Summer vacation officially starts for us here today. I’ve spent the morning filling my Google Calendar app with all the activities that are going to keep us busy over the next few months. But there is still lots of unaccounted for time – much of which will be spent outside…. if the sun ever comes out around here.

My second child just learned to ride his bike without training wheels. Grandma even bought him a Spider Man model for an early birthday present. My oldest son rides too, and I can’t think of a better way to spend time than to go riding through our beautiful parks with two of my best guys.

So today, in honor of summer and having kids and doing summer things, I have decided this cute Schwinn Wayfarer Bike should be on my shopping list. Don’t you agree?

Daily Covet: Prada Round-Framed Sunglasses

Prada has always been the epitome of cool, classic and elegant.

These Prada sunglasses are no exception with their retro-feel lenses and sophisticated black frames.

Sadly, the lense shape of these sunglasses aren’t the most flattering on my face.  But I adore the swirly design at the temples.  If you ask me, they are a work of art too!

What do you think?  Too cool or too bad?

Daily Covet: Cutest Robes EVER!

Hi bloggy friends.  I ran across these adorable robes this morning and had to stop myself from ordering one in every color.

How cute are these in vegetable-dyed, lightweight organic cotton fabrics from Malabar Bay?  And how inexpensive?

… makes me want to never get dressed.  Yum.

Daily Covet: Sandals with a Pop

Is there a theme today?  I guess if there was, it would be items that go pop!  But I popped in completely the opposite direction from the disco jeans…

I ran across these adorable sandals today.

Seychelles Snapdragon Heels, modcloth.com $89

While it would be easy to throw them on with a beige linen sundress I have, I went looking for another feminine frock instead.  Something with a little more oomph!  Bring on the very affordable Dorothy Perkins sleeveless dress:

Navy belted pintuck dress, dorothyperkins.com $39

But an outfit isn’t complete without statement-making jewelry and a classic handbag.  So here you go!

Dorothy Perkins dress, Seychelles sandals, Kate Spade handbag (sale $159)

Daily Covet: Pants with Pizzazz

AG Adriano Goldschmied navy ankle legging sequin pants, http://www.agjeans.com $225

When I was shopping for my Christmas party outfit several weeks ago, I tried on the most fabulous pants.  Too fabulous for my Midwestern town – a town that thinks khakis are dress pants – but fabulous nonetheless.  (I love you anyway, town!)

They were so fun to wear while parading around on tip-toes (simulating heels), in the dressing room.  And with a navy silk flowy tunic, they were nothing short of monochromatic perfection… that is, for someone who’s big night out doesn’t consist of two young children and serious sorting of sugar packets at the local neighborhood “pub food” place.  I mean I love Goldberg’s, but I won’t be wearing sparkle pants there anytime soon.

And what’s better?  They are made with lots of stretch by AG Adriano Goldschmied, a very wearable designer label for those of us, who have had children.  They called them leggings, but they are very 5-pocket-jean-looking leggings, if you ask me.

No matter, try them on for yourself and make plans.  Big plans!

Daily De-Covet

Yep, it’s happened.  Write down the day, the day that will live in infamy.  The day that I, Amy Grace, am not coveting anything.  Not anything in particular, anyway.  As hard as I have tried today, and as many websites as I scoured while waiting for my car hatch latch to be fixed, I could not find a single thing worth posting.

So, my loyal followers, I will give you the top 10 things I do not covet today instead.  Try to control your excitement!

Cry Baby...

10.  The Iowa Caucus finished up last night, and since I am a neighbor to Iowa, I seem to get more than my fair share of political calls at inopportune times (read ALWAYS!) I do not covet these.

9.  It’s 48 degrees right now in Middle America, and my Mac’s weather icon says we should be expecting almost 60 tomorrow.  It’s been like this for several weeks, and it looks like it may continue into the beginning of the next one.  It will end sometime, and we will be repaid handsomely with snow, ice and treachery soon.  I do not covet these.

8.  I have work to do.  My virtual boss (she’s real, but we’ve only met once in person.  And she lives 10 hours away.) sent me a copywriting assignment with plenty of categories to complete.  I do not covet these.

7.  We generally eat 3 meals and 1 snack at our house.  Coming up with something to make for 3 meals per day, 7 days per week is awful for me.  I would rather jam a sharpened pencil into my palm.  I do not covet these.

6.  I gave up shaving my legs last fall, and started waxing instead.  It’s great that the hair grows in slower and softer each time, but sucks that you have to wait for it to get long enough to be ripped out again.  They are especially unsightly when I have to wear workout pants that only go to my knees.  I do not covet these hairs.

5.  I took another close look at the tile that is my kitchen counter top.  It’s awful.  No matter how much I scrub, dig and bleach, the grout is dingy and dirty.  It doesn’t help that I live with 3 children (ok 2, but my husband doesn’t wipe up spills either.)  And who’s brilliant idea was it anyway, to use tile and grout for a counter top?  I do not covet these.

4., 3.  Sadly, I was not blessed with a lithe little body or the Hollywood metabolism that keeps starlets thin without even trying… ahem, right!…so there are at least 4 days per week, when I must drag my butt to a Body Blast class, Zumba or to run rat-like on an annoying cardio machine.  I do not covet these days.  Or these machines.

2.  My husband bought me new, super cute Uggs for Christmas.  (Yes, the ones on my daily covet!)  They were too big.  So I reordered from Ugg.com, and they sent me a new “pair” in my size, yet one boot was significantly larger than the other.  I do not covet boots in different sizes.

1.  And last, but definitely not least, I have had a knot in my shoulder for weeks now.  I’m pretty sure it’s from excessive typing in a non-ergonomic fashion.  As I type, it’s zinging me with sharp pin-like pains, while simultaneously maintaining the ever-present dull ache.  I do not covet this.

There you have it!  You don’t even have to stay up late to watch Letterman tonight… you can get your top 10 and all my complaining in one sitting.  Thanks for hanging in there with me!
