Daily Covet: Anthropologie Willoughby Sofa

I need a new sofa.

Well, I need another sofa.

I love the sofa I have, but I am dying to add some bold color to my otherwise subdued living room.  And on a rainy day this week, I spent the day moving my furniture around and around to no avail.

This is the Willoughby sofa I have my eye on… in fact, Anthropologie has a whole gaggle of furniture I wouldn’t mind adding to my maison.

Take a good look at this lucious velvet sofa.  Isn’t it delish?

Daily Covet: Glass Table Lamps

I am nesting.  But not in the nursery department.

I also have Spring Fever, which makes me want to liven things up around my house.

My living room has been a tough room for a long time.  It’s always felt “unfinished.”  I have finally decided to pay some attention to it.  I started with the easy part.  Pillows!

We added an adorable little chest, which we painted bright turquoise against our paler blue walls.  It’s got gold accents, which look great against our straw-colored sofa.

Now, I’m wanting to update lighting.  I want something a little more modern to juxtapose with our mostly French-style antiques.  I think after scouring site after site for lighting that is fabulous, but also affordable (really?  $700 for lamps?!), I have finally found what I’m looking for… enter Pepita glass lamps from you’ll never guess where!

Daily Covet: Never thought I’d want a sectional

Bon nuit bloggy friends.  Sorry I’ve been MIA today, but have had much paying work to get done.

Hopefully, you missed the daily covet!

I was shopping a furniture sale with a friend this weekend, who is buying a new house.  We hit up a liquidation sale at Mrs. B’s, the sister store (and where really great furniture goes to be discounted or to die) to Nebraska Furniture Mart, one of the country’s largest furniture stores if I’m not mistaken.  For so long, I have rejected the idea of a sectional.  That is, until I moved into my house with a very narrow and long family room in the basement.

It’s the perfect place for a lovely sectional that is comfortable and provides a lot of seating for things like football games and movie nights.  With that said, I found this amazing, designer sofa marked down from $3900 to $1199!  While it lacks an impressive quality in the picture, I can assure you the Danish linen upholstery and nailhead trim is nothing short of beautiful… minus the ugly throw pillows.

It’s so pretty in fact, that I now want it for my living room instead, which is the long, narrow room directly above my family room.  Now if I could just convince my husband we NEED it, when we have a perfectly good sofa already.  Sigh….

Daily Covet: Living Room Makeover

I just said to my husband, literally less than 12 hours ago, that I wished I had 2 loveseats facing eachother, and a rectangle coffee table in my living room.

As it stands, my living room looks like this.  Pretty, but uninspiring and mostly filled with beautiful, inherited furniture I did not pick out myself.

But I’m thinking that since my living room is long and narrow like the one pictured here (ok, not as long and much more narrow),  I’d like it to look like this instead:

So now I’m on the hunt for the pieces that would help me recreate this look in my own home.  I’ll need 2 of these sofas from Restoration Hardware.

Laurent Salon Bench, Restoration Hardware $1270

A gaggle of beautiful throw pillows with a hint of turquoise, my favorite color….

Random Throw Pillows, shopping info on Polyvore.com

A distressed wood coffee table that I wouldn’t have to worry much about, and with the bottom shelf for my design and fashion books.

Trekker Coffee Table, Ethan Allen $999

An ottoman in matching Danish linen for extra seating and bonus! extra storage.

Castered Tufted Storage Ottoman, Ballard Designs $471

And of course, 2 beautiful bronze & crystal chandaliers for some much-needed overhead light.

6 Light Crystal Chandelier in Bronze, http://www.plumbersurplus.com $538

Unique Furnishings and Pops of Color

I love painted furniture in bright poppy hues and am always looking to add those statement making pieces to my own house.  While my bank account doesn’t include many of these items procured by designer Susan Hornbeak-Ortiz on GILT.com, I do like to virtually browse for ideas that better fit into my budget.  Here are some of my faves…

Daily Covet: Didn’t even know I was looking

So, anyone who reads littleblacksweats.com here and there, knows that I get a bazillion marketing emails a day from a whole host of retailers.  Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Neiman Marcus, Janie and Jack, and the list go on…

A few days ago (yes, I’ve been busy!), I received one from Crate and Barrel.  I like Crate and Barrel a lot but most of their furniture is a tad more modern that I prefer… and by prefer, I mean a little too modern to go with all the  beautiful furniture I had the great pleasure of inheriting, but probably wouldn’t have picked out on my own accord.  I digress.

The email was about a sale on upholstery and I just happened to catch a glimpse of this cool sofa in an instant.  I love the nail head look.  I love the tailored finish.  I love the lazy Sunday morning feeling it gave me just looking at it.  I love the color – like pink cheeks after a long day in the summer sun.

The downside?  All those pillows that would never stay put.  I love it, but I can’t afford it.

Problem solved.

Sun Room, Option #1

I’ve got a space that needs some TLC.  My husband used to work from home and used a very cute room off the back of our living room and adjacent to our kitchen for his office.  It’s not a big room but it’s got french doors and windows on three sides.  We have decided to turn this into a play/TVroom for our children.  Since it’s so close to the kitchen, I have a better vantage point to witness and hopefully stifle any trouble making they are getting into.

Because, it’s a narrow room, just over 7′ wide, I will need some smaller scale pieces.  And because it’s nestled between our kitchen and our living room, I didn’t want to add in another wall color.  I’ve decided that it either needs to be the same color as our kitchen or our living room.  Hence, we have “Option #1” followed tomorrow by “Option #2.”  Take a look….
