You know what they say? Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. But so are 401Ks and nest eggs. So when you want to show off some bling and be nice to your bank account, CZs are not a bad way to go. On the plus side, they are perfectly flawless, unlike most real diamonds.
While clicking through a teaser from Refinery29 in my email today, I happened upon these beautiful stacking rings available at Nordstrom. The feature was about how the Duchess of Sussex (aka Meghan used-to-be-Markle) is suddenly sporting a new eternity band on one of her first formal appearances post birthing their baby, Archie. (How do we feel about that name? Is that for another day??)
No surprise that most of us are not princesses – recognized by the “state” at least – so in some most cases, affordable baubles are a necessity. This set of five bands-a-stacking allows you to mix and match for a new look every day. If you happen to be treating yourself, order a set in both the silver and gold tones for even more options in the mixed metals department. You’ll be eternally grateful you did.
As a self-described hoarder of coats, this double leopard topcoat from J.Crew is my newest fave. My penchant for wearing all black makes this coat all the more essential to my wardrobe. What a pop animal prints can give an otherwise monochromatic outfit.
Pair with black ankle pants, a black turtleneck and black flats for a chic and easy daytime look. Or throw it on over a red dress for a night out. Dress up jeans and jeweled heels or choose athletic pants for a more “street style” look.
We have had the craziest weather here in Middle America this year. It was kind of a cold spring until rain ruined half our allotted summer pool days. And this week, a fairly big snow complete with frigid winds and single digit temperatures showed up. In early November. Grrrrr…. or should I say Brrrrrr?
Since I canceled my gym membership recently for lack of “attendance,” I have taken to working out outside when I do fit it into my routine. However, I have always stood by the fact that cute workout clothes and new running shoes are enough motivation for me to get my butt back into the groove.
What better inspiration is there than this base layer Flurry Ombre set from Athleta? I love how cozy it looks and how cool the flurried pattern is. It’s also sassy enough to wear without layers aprés ski or peeking out of your winter parka when you’re on the run!
I want so badly to be writing more, but now that my three buddies are off to full-time school, I feel more inclined than ever to take care of business. The paying kind, sadly.
Nonetheless, I couldn’t NOT post these chaussures trés mignonnes! If you read this blog, well, as “regularly” as I don’t post, you will know that I love all things French. And to say I have been looking for black flats for some time and the absolute luck that I would find some with the Tour d’Eiffel and L’arc de Triomphe is just beyond the beyond.
So without further adieu, check out these Del Toro Paris Flats from Anthropologie. They are a little pricey, but am I worth it? Je pense que je suis.
Happy New Year Y’all! I know some of you might still be digging out after some pretty serious winter storms over the past month, but we are in the throes of our own blizzard here in Middle America.
You can only imagine what I do when it’s cold and snowy outside and my kids are home from school for the third time since they went back after their holiday break. Yep, virtual window shopping. Nothing brings me more joy than filling up virtual shopping carts all over the Internet. Well, checking out would actually be pretty joyful but not to my bank balance.
Today, my favorite thing is this Clare Vivier foldover clutch. Part of the reason I love it is because I have already taken another one for a test drive. I actually own the same Clare V. clutch in black leather with laser-cut pinholes on the part that actually folds over. It is a little rock ‘n roll and a lot versatile. I use it almost exclusively when I go out for a non-cocktail or formal affair.
But this particular Clare V. foldover clutch is drool-worthy. The tan snake print is actually embossed on leather and the bold navy and red stripes are done in suede. I love that it gives an otherwise “going out” bag a sporty vibe – not to mention a “Gucci” one at that! And since it’s in mostly brown neutrals, it’s perfect for a whole other segment of my wardrobe that is not as well-paired with my black one. I’m already envisioning this cute clutch with my navy-flowered embroidered jeans and some sweet suede sandals. Now if we could only bring on spring!
I just looked back at the time stamp on my last post and realized I’m failing miserably at maintaining this blog. I sortof wish I could say I have got my covet-ing in check, but that wouldn’t be true. I still spend a lot of time “window shopping” online. That is to say, filling up my virtual carts and leaving them to sit un-checked out.
But this time of year, I’m taking special note because I have several people who ask for lists or just a few things that I may have my eye on for Christmas. And so, to make their lives easier and also to get a much-needed post on the books for the end of the year, a few of my favorite things is here!
“A few of my favorite things” is generally what I title this post each year, but it is also the song lyric from one of my favorite movies, “Sound of Music.” The movie also reminds me of the holidays because it used to be shown on public TV the night of Christmas. My family would cuddle up at my grandparents’ house after the dinner had been eaten and the packages had been opened.
Anywho, let’s get to it. From creamy tunic sweaters to spency designer watches and key fobs that will also charge your phone, here are a handful of items I love this year.

I know it’s so not original to be back into Birkenstocks these days. Style blog after style blog is telling you how to reinvent your Birkenstocks because why not wear these comfortable and newly styled sandals with literally everything?
I had several pairs of Birkenstocks, both obtained in the late 80’s when they made their post-hippy re-emergence. I held onto them long after I ever considered wearing them. And finally took them to the Goodwill long after the leather had hardened and the soles had broken down.
I was certain that this was a bandwagon I was not going to jump back on. But then the old-school “Arizona” and the more flip-flop-like “Gizeh” started showing up everywhere. And in the best colors and textures.
To say I have a mini obsession with this Metallic Copper pair with the Soft footbed is a understatement. I mean, how tan could my feet look in these adorable sandals after all? And more importantly, what color polish should I get at my next pedicure? “Mirrored” is hard to accessorize!
On a more serious note however, since the U.S. loser-in-chief doesn’t see it necessary to look after our environment, it’s nice to know that companies like Birkenstock have been using more environmentally friendly materials and pioneering ways to reduce energy consumption since the 80’s. What better reason to wear Birkenstocks is there?
