Daily Covet: Pants with Pizzazz

AG Adriano Goldschmied navy ankle legging sequin pants, http://www.agjeans.com $225

When I was shopping for my Christmas party outfit several weeks ago, I tried on the most fabulous pants.  Too fabulous for my Midwestern town – a town that thinks khakis are dress pants – but fabulous nonetheless.  (I love you anyway, town!)

They were so fun to wear while parading around on tip-toes (simulating heels), in the dressing room.  And with a navy silk flowy tunic, they were nothing short of monochromatic perfection… that is, for someone who’s big night out doesn’t consist of two young children and serious sorting of sugar packets at the local neighborhood “pub food” place.  I mean I love Goldberg’s, but I won’t be wearing sparkle pants there anytime soon.

And what’s better?  They are made with lots of stretch by AG Adriano Goldschmied, a very wearable designer label for those of us, who have had children.  They called them leggings, but they are very 5-pocket-jean-looking leggings, if you ask me.

No matter, try them on for yourself and make plans.  Big plans!

Daily Covet: These Bubbles Aren’t For Kids

I’ve been buying fun, costume-y jewelry for years.  Some of it I get rid of, some of it I keep forever, and most of it – well, I never actually wear it.

But I’m turning over a new leaf.  Not a resolution really, but I’m trying to put some effort into getting dressed every morning.  I’ve always been of the opinion that if you look good, you feel good.  And I need all the feeling good I can get this winter!

I have had my eye on this necklace or a version of this necklace for a few years now.  Because of the price, and the number of times I would have actually put it on (zero), I’ve declined.  But as of today, I have successfully worn something other than my stud earrings and my wedding band, three days in a row!

What can’t you wear this with?  A strapless taffetta dress.  A white, slub t-shirt and jeans.  A cashmere twinset and pencil skirt.  A button down flannel shirt (as long as it’s a flattering cut) and a wool mini… the possibilities are endless.  And it’s such an effortless way to say, “Hey, I put some thought into getting dressed today!”

It might just be time to spend a little of my Christmas money…

Daily Covet: I just can’t get enough

Tescher's History of Fashion, Volume 1 & 2, amazon.com $38

As if I need another coffee table book in my life, I found this beautiful History of Fashion set in one of my daily emails.

And just in time, my mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas.  I told her about my newest covet.  It’s got to be obvious by now, that I love, love, love clothing.  And not just the kind that is practical and keeps you protected.  In fact, I tend to lean more toward the clothing, which provides no practicality and that, which you actually have to protect.

But I figured this is a must-have for a girl who just can’t get enough fashion.  And it got glowing reviews from readers!

Now I’m crossing my fingers that Mom decides I must have it too!

Where have you been all my life?

I have been introduced to a website that is beyond my wildest dreams.  If I was any kind of technically-savy, I would say that I should’ve made it up myself a long time ago.

Everyone knows I’m mad about scouring the Internet, stores and what have you, to find and post things that I really, really need.  Ok, want.  But sometimes it feels like I need them.  And it’s my blog.

Yesterday, I posted this little ensemble I put together on Polyvore.com.  Polyvore.com has everything a girl could want in their virtual closet, PLUS backgrounds, text, different fonts and more.  I can’t even tell you how much time I have spent on this site, in under a week and CANNOT believe that I didn’t know about this sooner.

I blame my high-maintenance children. Always wanting to eat…or to bathe….or to be dropped off at school.

But right now, I have time to myself to simply put great outfits together – complete with handbags, jewelry, shoes and other great accessories.

I worked on this little number this week.  Enjoy!

Daily Covet: Doing ‘Laundry’

I have an upcoming trip to Chicago in a couple of weeks and this is the worst time of the year to pack light.  It starts out freezing, becomes warm, and then becomes freezing again when the sun goes down.  This means you need at least two different wardrobes.

I also have a wedding to go to, so that means I need an occasion dress along, while I’m packing light.  The answer?  Chiffon.  And I normally H-A-T-E chiffon but I have had my eye on this dress for months.  I finally ordered it with the hopes that I will love it as much once it arrives and I put it on (NOT bloody likely)!

But I love the modern print and the long sheer sleeves, which makes it perfect for Spring and Fall.  I plan to throw on some pale pink suede pumps with it to play up the cooler weather factor and figured a tailored navy jacket might be another possible fix.

Cross your fingers for me because at this price, it’d be a front runner for sure!

Daily Covet: Working Girl

No, no, it’s not what you think.

My friend, who suggested today at our lunch date, that I find her some work appropriate dresses, is not in fact, a prostitute.

It got me thinking though.  Since this working girl (me!) is no longer in a work force that enforces a dress code, I went looking.

Here are some great choices for you girls that are lucky enough to shower before noon (who are we kidding? I don’t shower until my kids go to bed!) and hang out with adults… who know lots of words… and don’t follow you to the bathroom… and can get their own juice…

But who ever said, 9 to 5 had to be buttoned up and stuffy?  Some of these darling dresses are classic styles in modern colors and prints… and there are one or two, for those days when you need to wear your “power suit” er… power dress.

Diane von Furstenberg New Jeanne Wrap Dress, Neiman Marcus $345

This is a must-have for every wardrobe.  A DVF wrap dress is the first and last word in women’s worktime dresses.  And she’s always throwing cool new prints into her knit bag of tricks!

David Meister Fold-Over Detail Dress, Neiman Marcus $395

Mark my words, you will see this color EVERYWHERE this fall.  So channel your inner Joan Holloway and put on this body concious stunner, with a structured black bag and classic black heels.

Magaschoni Ribbed Cashmere Turtleneck Dress, Neiman Marcus $225

This is about as sophisticated as it gets.  This dress means business, but is super body concious and not in the least bit stuffy.  Add knee-high boots and a bag that pops for maximum modern impact.

Lafayette 148 New York Faux-Leather-Trim Dress, Neiman Marcus $448

This little number is a little “Rock Star” with leather trim but a classic silhouette makes it tame enough for the office.  Classic chocolate pumps with a hint of irridescence would be perfect for this sheath.

Milly Elisabet Belted Silk Dress, Neiman Marcus $425

Who says you have to wear black, navy and grey to the office.  Some days, you need a bit of oomph to get you through the long day.  This Milly piece is a fun way to be appropriately covered, but in a style and print that says, “I march to the beat of my own damn drumb!”

Kay Unger New York Belted Print Dress, Neiman Marcus $210

This hot little number is my favorite.  So it’s a bit edgy but it oozes confidence and fearlessness.  And it’ll make you stand out among a bunch of stuffy  suits (i.e. men!)  Not to mention, it’s fabulously priced!!

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Stretch Cotton Shirtdress, Nordstrom $159

Ok, so there’s a day when you really need to exude classic elegance.  Maybe you are working with some old school folks, who won’t take you seriously in something a bit more modern.  You won’t go wrong in Ralph Lauren with gold buttons.  But it’s still so sleek – you’ll feel like a million bucks, while your getting them to donate theirs.

Trina Turk Sleeveless Print Dress, Nordstrom Sale $130

This little number is a super sassy and modern print with a knockout neck line.  Wear spring and summer with red slingbacks and chunky jewelry, and this is the perfect way to look cool and stay cool!

Daily Covet: Happy Birthday, Love Louis!

I know, I know, it’s so cliché to covet a Louis Vuitton handbag.  But this particular bag has a slouchy style that is casual, yet it’s one of the most classic luxury designer handbags ON EARTH.

This means it is wearable with anything from your little black dress to your power suit to khaki shorts and a tunic.   It’s “cost per use” is really quite low!

So for my birthday, I am posting my most current covet, a Louis Vuitton Artsy MM.

Let’s hope my husband is shopping my blog this week!  After all, it’s the smaller version…

Artsy MM, LouisVuitton.com $1610
