Daily Covet: Classic Vans in Checkboard

Vans were as common, if not more so, than underwear when I was growing up in Southern California.

Classic Vans were worn by skateboarders, BMX riders and surfers starting in the early 70’s.  And although, Vans have always been popular, they have had a resurgence the last few years as they have put out more styles and colors.  And as J.Crew picked up Vans for their Crewcuts line for kids, Vans are once again a household name all over the country.

Of course, I have always loved the look of vans, but now I am thinking practicality too.  My youngest son is a few weeks away from starting preschool.  In order to save myself and his teachers some time and angst, I’m thinking I want to order him these adorable checkerboard Vans in bright blue and orange.

As I mentioned in my blog several weeks ago, color is king.  And these Classic Vans slip-ons definitely boast some color.  What a cute addition to a little boys wardrobe, which doesn’t have the option of fun, frilly details like a girl’s would.

My hope is that he’ll love the independence of putting on and taking off his own shoes as needed.  I know I will!

Back to School

I’m sending my first born to school in 6 days.
He’s excited.  I get knots in my stomach just thinking about it.
He’s ready, but I can’t believe he’s going to be gone all day, every day.  He’s been with me for almost 6 years… my buddy. my associate.  my Tomas the Train enthusiast.  my personal shopper.  my lunch date. my baby.
So, in honor of my little guy’s first day of school, I’ve put together a fun collection of “Back to School” items that any girl could show off — in class or otherwise!

Daily Covet: Anthropologie’s take on the black & tan

You know how when you find those shoes that you just love, and you can’t decide whether to get them in black?  Or in tan?  Or both?

These Anthropologie black & tan heels will help you make that decision toute suite, with their adorable two-toned selves.

Never more will you have to pack two pairs of heels for a long weekend.  Wear them with bare legs and the perfect pedicure in my favorite, OPI’s “Thrill of Brazil.”  Or pair them with gray tights and cute skirts when the weather turns cold.

These versatile Anthropologie heels are for the chick, who can’t decide between her favorite jeans, a sexy pencil skirt or a feminine dress.

Accessories in Brights!

Brights are big again this season!

Are you one of those, who only feels comfortable in your monochromatic wardrobe?  Punch up your black, grey, white and navy with a healthy dose of bright accessories– and no one will know the difference!

Out-of-closet redesign for shoes

I’m out of closet space.

My old home has very small closets, definitely not built for a clothes horse like me.

There are two small closets in the master bedroom, one for each my husband and me.  And one in the guest room, which I have taken over, as well.  I keep special occasion items in there usually, and sometimes blazers or jackets that are a little more bulky.

I have been swapping out my shoes for six years now.  Putting the decidely fall/winter ones away in the spring, and the spring/summer ones away in the fall.  It’s a big pain, and sometimes they overlap.  Since I am a bit of a collector of shoes, I often forget great shoes that aren’t right in front of me.

So, I’ve been hunting for ways to store shoes within reach all year long.  And these are some of the great ideas other people have had.

Until I find a piece of furniture that looks like this last pic, maybe I’ll just use one side of the crib I just took apart instead!  What d’ya think?

Daily Covet: 10 Items I wish Crewcuts made for J. Crew women

I just received a couple of catalogs from one of my favorite stores, J. Crew.  I’m sure you’ve guessed this by now, as I feature them frequently.

But one thing bums me out.  There are some really cute things in the Crewcuts catalog (children’s line for those of you not from this planet) that I would love to have in regular women’s sizes.

Daily Covet: Sandals with a Pop

Is there a theme today?  I guess if there was, it would be items that go pop!  But I popped in completely the opposite direction from the disco jeans…

I ran across these adorable sandals today.

Seychelles Snapdragon Heels, modcloth.com $89

While it would be easy to throw them on with a beige linen sundress I have, I went looking for another feminine frock instead.  Something with a little more oomph!  Bring on the very affordable Dorothy Perkins sleeveless dress:

Navy belted pintuck dress, dorothyperkins.com $39

But an outfit isn’t complete without statement-making jewelry and a classic handbag.  So here you go!

Dorothy Perkins dress, Seychelles sandals, Kate Spade handbag (sale $159)
