Daily Covet: Fashion Artist Book

Obviously, I’m into fashion.  And to no lesser degree, fashion books.

My blog, my weekly column and my wardrobe are proof positive of that.

However, something I find most frustrating when it comes to fashion, is that what my vision entails often doesn’t even exist in the market.  So I began casually looking for ways to “invent” or create that elusive thing I’m looking for.

I discovered books on how to do just that.  One of my faves is “Fashion Artist: Drawing Techniques to Portfolio Presentation” by Sandra Burke.  The review of this book states, “Thorough text, self-explanatory drawings, photographs of the fashion model, together with artwork from international designers and illustrators, this book demonstrates the accepted design standards used in the fashion industry.”

Brilliant!  I’m putting it on my Christmas list because I’m kind of a tough cookie to shop for.  (Unless you are my husband and you shop directly from this blog… also brilliant!)

Maybe my New Year’s resolution will include more sketching and sewing… wait and see!

Back to School

I’m sending my first born to school in 6 days.
He’s excited.  I get knots in my stomach just thinking about it.
He’s ready, but I can’t believe he’s going to be gone all day, every day.  He’s been with me for almost 6 years… my buddy. my associate.  my Tomas the Train enthusiast.  my personal shopper.  my lunch date. my baby.
So, in honor of my little guy’s first day of school, I’ve put together a fun collection of “Back to School” items that any girl could show off — in class or otherwise!

Style Sleuth: Black Lace & Back East

One morning I met a mom and her children at the same preschool my son attends.  She had done some guest posts for a Mother’s Social Networking site that I write for regularly.  We hit it off instantly, and I ran home to send her a link to something via Facebook.  She saw the udpates I made to Littleblacksweats.com and immediately put me on the hunt for a sophisticated dress she could wear to a wedding back East.

It took me all of five seconds to conjure up the perfect dress (I had actually tried it on in Chicago that fall.)  She ordered it and loved how it fit.

Mission accomplished.  And how classic, elegant and demurely sexy is this little number?
