Fall Trend Report 2013

Fall is my favorite time of the year for fashion, and the fall trend reports are out!  Momaha mug

Here is the line up of some of the styles you’ll likely see when the weather turns colder.

What’s your favorite trend?

My paying gig: What I wore

I’ve been so bad at this “what I wore” segment – usually because there is no one around to take my picture when I’m rushing out of the house to my next destination.Momaha mug

However, I did rustle up most of the items I’ve been wearing lately –  and a few “similar” items I’ve found online.

Daily Covet: Personalized & Preppy Outdoor Entertaining

I love outdoor entertaining.  And it just so happens that our outdoor space happens to be the most perfect part of our living space.

Our red market umbrella and red Adirondack chairs, along with grass green iron table and dining chairs, pop against a bricked-in patio and plenty of normally lush landscaping.  Fun dishes, and of course table linens, are also imperative for great outdoor fêtes.

I decided to look for outdoor dining pieces on BoatmanGeller.com, and I couldn’t help bug oggle a few all of them!

But if you love anything personalized, check out the most amazing selection of fun prints.  The selection of stationary, melamine, desk accessories, phone accessories and more are in all in one place.

Take a gander at these scrumptious pieces and patterns…

Aaaannnd, a dear friend of mine runs a booming business called Mommy Wisdom, where you can order some of Boatman Geller’s cutest products!

My Paying Gig: Pair Prints Successfully

Prints are an important fashion trend this this year, and the fall collections are no exception.  Designers, shop windows and fashionistas alike are showing and wearing bold prints with other prints.

How can you pair prints successfully without looking like a tourist?  Read more here.

Style Sleuth: Black Lace & Back East

One morning I met a mom and her children at the same preschool my son attends.  She had done some guest posts for a Mother’s Social Networking site that I write for regularly.  We hit it off instantly, and I ran home to send her a link to something via Facebook.  She saw the udpates I made to Littleblacksweats.com and immediately put me on the hunt for a sophisticated dress she could wear to a wedding back East.

It took me all of five seconds to conjure up the perfect dress (I had actually tried it on in Chicago that fall.)  She ordered it and loved how it fit.

Mission accomplished.  And how classic, elegant and demurely sexy is this little number?

Daily Covet: Westin Home Collection, Heaven on Earth

I revisited my favorite hotel bed this weekend.

My husband and I had a staycation for our 8th Anniversary, and stayed at this little hotel in Midtown.  It wasn’t the “Presidential Suite” at some swanky high-rise hotel or a European-style room at a boutique hotel downtown.  But it was the room I wanted at the Element Hotel, a cool, modern, extended-stay part of the Westin group, and home to the Westin Home Collection.

The king-sized bed has layer upon layer upon layer of white, down and high thread count Egyptian cotton.  You can’t even imagine the fantastic night’s sleep you can get in this bed.

And since I HATE my own new mattress, it is this Westin Home mattress and bedding that I dream about at night!  And it’s possible to buy them… for a price.

Color Me Rad – Do it!

So, a friend asked me several weeks ago to run the Color Me Rad race with her.  I declined because I am somewhat OCD about having dirty hands, and certainly of feeling altogether messy.

But when a staff member contacted me about promoting the run on LittleBlackSweats.com, 1) I was flattered that she chose LBS.com (the little fashion site that could) and 2) thought it was a sign from the universe that I was supposed to run this 5K and possibly conquer my aversion to “filth” with good ole colored cornstarch.

With that said, I’m recruiting.  Whether you are training for some longer race or you just want to run this for the fun of it, Color Me Rad is coming to the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs on July 8th at 9am.  You can register online and the registration fee is $40, which includes a t-shirt, sunglasses, race bib, sponsor swag and color packet for the color fight post race.  Or volunteer to be on the color bomb squad that “bombs” the racers every 5 minutes throughout – go easy on me!

Check out pics and videos from previous races on the website or join 70,000 other fans on Facebook and “like” the Color Me Rad page.  Once you’ve seen the pictures, you can’t help but sign up… take it from me!  You can also keep up to date on the other races around the country, and let friends know you are doing this great event that benefits the Special Olympics.

Check out this great YouTube video for inspiration, and I hope to see you there!

Paying Gig: Zest for Life, A Quest for Healing

January 27th marks a very important date.  To honor what would have been their stillborn baby’s first birthday, the Hubertys are hosting a benefit for a group that promotes safe pregnancies.
