You might find this so random, but today I am coveting a Pergola.
We had the lovliest time on the back deck of some friend’s of ours last night. They had little round lights outlining the deck, which provided the perfect amount of ambient lighting for late night cocktails on a hot, summer night.
We too, have a fabulous outdoor space for entertaining and while it’s practically perfect in every way, I have this vision for a gorgeous pergola to semi-cover our patio. I want it to be strung with little white lights and maybe even have a ceiling fan to keep us cool when it gets beastly hot in August.
I also want it to have the same ivy growing in and around it just like I have crawling up the walls of my home.
What an outdoor paradise in the canopy of tiny lights and lush greenery!
This one is absolutely gorgeous and is like adding square footage to your living space. But maybe too-muchy like being in your family room.
I love the lights and the chandalier, presumably with votives for extra mood lighting.
But this space is absolutely UH-MAZING! I must admit however, that it may not be just the pergola that has me so in love… it might also be the stone patio and the table for dining al fresco.
An exhaustive search for new homes in my neighborhood have led to no good options… in our price range, at least! So, I’m looking at ways that this girl can get room for more shoes and clothing in the space I already have.
I went to Google, which led me to pinterest. I found this amazing built-in wardrobe with gorgeous doors and mercury glass mirrored panels. This is my absolute dream and I’ve got just the wall for it. I also wouldn’t mind adding that chandelier to my wish list.
The question is: How much is this going to set me back?
Guests who see it for the first time always exclaim, “It must be so nice to have that big Whirlpool tub!”
First of all, we NEVER use it. It’s two floors away from our bedroom. Secondly, aren’t Whirlpool tubs kindof 80’s, like having an outdoor, free-standing jacuzzi in your back yard?
Moving on. The tile, which covers much of the walls around the infamous Whirlpool tub, is a sortof pink-ish, beige-ish color with a sea green wash to some of the trim tile. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be Southwestern or Tuscan…
It’s a great-sized bathroom, but the space is wasted as it really functions as the “powder room” because there is no guestroom down there either.
The vanity is oak, and kountry with a “k.” Think craft fairs and wooden shelves full of knickknacks and gimcracks. Sock dolls and wooden hearts hanging on rope. To add insult to injury, the pulls are brass. Not cool brass – like flowery, also kountry brass.
Above the ugly vanity is a mirror that I put up because I had no other place for it. That I like, but it does not match in any way, shape or form the “disco” sconces that hang on either side of it. I can’t fully explain these enough, so I must include this picture…
Throw in scuffed up, pale vanilla walls and cream-colored toilet and countertops, and you’ve got yourself one fugly bathroom.
I think I’d prefer it look a little something like this… because if it did, you wouldn’t get me out of it!
I love painted furniture in bright poppy hues and am always looking to add those statement making pieces to my own house. While my bank account doesn’t include many of these items procured by designer Susan Hornbeak-Ortiz on GILT.com, I do like to virtually browse for ideas that better fit into my budget. Here are some of my faves…
I keep threatening to redecorate my sunroom, which also doubles as my children’s tv/play room. Everything in there was pulled from somewhere else, or originally intended for something else… like my husband’s beautiful, but way to big for the space, desk.
This morning, I found this amazing deal of a rug on Haute Look, and again it has me thinking about color schemes and redecorating. I know I want a beach-y feel in there, and plan to paint the walls pale blue but from there, I haven’t made any significant decisions. This rug though, makes me think light blue, navy and orange for the sunroom….
At this very moment, I am writing this blog, editing another blog for Momaha.com and trying to also complete some copywriting… at my kitchen table. (Oh, and eating lunch too!)
I am dying for my own little space!
One that I can write in. One that I can set up and use my sewing machine in. One that I can store important papers in. You get the picture? I googled “home office spaces” and came up with the most perfect office space ever. Complete with Eiffel Tower, no less.
