Daily Covet: Table, tables and more tables

My two older kids have started back to school this week – don’t get me started on how early this is – and I have been inspired to start working on my house.

I love this house so much, but it’s getting awfully crowded in here. We’ve looked for years at other homes in our neighborhood and have yet to find anything we love nearly as much. So, while we are deciding whether to stay and add on or sell at some point, we are trying to maximize the space we do have.

To help make space, I’ve decided that some stuff needs to go or at least be relocated to a better spot. I’d also like to replace some things that aren’t my favorite or repurpose them. I’ve been fortunate enough to inherit a lot of beautiful furniture, but am really getting to the point where I want to thoughtfully decorate and arrange my own spaces with things that I love.

Fast forward to a new rug. I took out a traditional floral rug in black and switched it with a more modern rug. It’s actually mid-century-ish in turquoise, navy, beige and gold tones that match my walls, sofa and darker antique furniture. I thought it would be the perfect addition to the room and force me to update. It was also sooo inexpensive, so I won’t be a freak about having my family actually “live” with it and on it – ok, less of a freak.

So now, I’m looking to replace some other dark antiques with lighter pieces. This clear glass coffee table is definitely more modern than the dark table I have now. And it’s the perfect piece to show off my new rug while still providing me with a space for flowers, my beautiful coffee table books and for drinks when we have company.

Next, I’d like some new occasion tables with a modern edge and a little bling. So far, my favorites are these two sets. I love the “bamboo” legs and pale, gold metal of the first ones and they are a great mix of traditional and modern.

I absolutely adore the second set too and feel like they would pop against the rug. And they are also so affordable! The only downside to these tables, fingerprints. I’m going to have to get much more regular about cleaning up fingerprints!

With exception of the rug, I haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet. But at least I’m moving in the direction of creating a space that I absolutely love. Next up, lamps, pendants and sconces….

Repost: Happy 125th Birthday Eiffel Tower!

After four seriously stressful days of trying to renew my LBS.com domain, I have finally succeeded.  If you missed Happy 125th Birthday Eiffel Tower! this week, it’s now available, and I promise to get some more good posts up as soon as possible!

Happy Friday (or Saturday for you far away bloggy friends!) and thanks, as always, for reading LittleBlackSweats!

Daily Covet: Glass Table Lamps

I am nesting.  But not in the nursery department.

I also have Spring Fever, which makes me want to liven things up around my house.

My living room has been a tough room for a long time.  It’s always felt “unfinished.”  I have finally decided to pay some attention to it.  I started with the easy part.  Pillows!

We added an adorable little chest, which we painted bright turquoise against our paler blue walls.  It’s got gold accents, which look great against our straw-colored sofa.

Now, I’m wanting to update lighting.  I want something a little more modern to juxtapose with our mostly French-style antiques.  I think after scouring site after site for lighting that is fabulous, but also affordable (really?  $700 for lamps?!), I have finally found what I’m looking for… enter Pepita glass lamps from you’ll never guess where!

Daily Covet: Personalized & Preppy Outdoor Entertaining

I love outdoor entertaining.  And it just so happens that our outdoor space happens to be the most perfect part of our living space.

Our red market umbrella and red Adirondack chairs, along with grass green iron table and dining chairs, pop against a bricked-in patio and plenty of normally lush landscaping.  Fun dishes, and of course table linens, are also imperative for great outdoor fêtes.

I decided to look for outdoor dining pieces on BoatmanGeller.com, and I couldn’t help bug oggle a few all of them!

But if you love anything personalized, check out the most amazing selection of fun prints.  The selection of stationary, melamine, desk accessories, phone accessories and more are in all in one place.

Take a gander at these scrumptious pieces and patterns…

Aaaannnd, a dear friend of mine runs a booming business called Mommy Wisdom, where you can order some of Boatman Geller’s cutest products!

Daily Covet: All purpose console table

Console tables really can be multi-purpose pieces of furniture.  If they are a good size, shape and style, they can really move and grow with you.

Case and point, this console table.  Toooootally, not my style under normal circumstances.  However, since I’m so into boldly-painted furniture, I thought the oversized proportions, turned legs, etc. would be the perfect home for the smaller tv, dvds and toys in our sunroom.

Imagine large baskets filled with toys, tucked nicely underneath this fun piece that happens to also be on super sale at the aforementioned furniture store. There are also those two nice, big drawers to store DVDs, and it’s shallow in depth, so it would be far less intrusive than the oversized art-deco desk that we have in there now.

I imagine this painted in a bright, high-gloss turquoise or yellow and packed full of all the things my kids love (those, which I hate to have strewn about my sunroom all the time!)

Daily Covet: Living Room Makeover

I just said to my husband, literally less than 12 hours ago, that I wished I had 2 loveseats facing eachother, and a rectangle coffee table in my living room.

As it stands, my living room looks like this.  Pretty, but uninspiring and mostly filled with beautiful, inherited furniture I did not pick out myself.

But I’m thinking that since my living room is long and narrow like the one pictured here (ok, not as long and much more narrow),  I’d like it to look like this instead:

So now I’m on the hunt for the pieces that would help me recreate this look in my own home.  I’ll need 2 of these sofas from Restoration Hardware.

Laurent Salon Bench, Restoration Hardware $1270

A gaggle of beautiful throw pillows with a hint of turquoise, my favorite color….

An ottoman in matching Danish linen for extra seating and bonus! extra storage.

And of course, 2 beautiful bronze & crystal chandaliers for some much-needed overhead light.

Unique Furnishings and Pops of Color

I love painted furniture in bright poppy hues and am always looking to add those statement making pieces to my own house.  While my bank account doesn’t include many of these items procured by designer Susan Hornbeak-Ortiz on GILT.com, I do like to virtually browse for ideas that better fit into my budget.  Here are some of my faves…
