My paying gig: What I wore

I’ve been so bad at this “what I wore” segment – usually because there is no one around to take my picture when I’m rushing out of the house to my next destination.Momaha mug

However, I did rustle up most of the items I’ve been wearing lately –  and a few “similar” items I’ve found online.

Daily Covet: J.Crew Hummingbird Florals

I received J.Crew’s stylebook catalog today, and got a better glimpse of a print that has been catching my eye in ads for the past several weeks.

The J.Crew Hummingbird Floral print, which is part of their “Collection” line (read $$$), has absolutely stolen my heart.  I love the pale blue background.  I love the pops of red, black, white and bits of pale pink, green and purple against the rich silk/cotton blend fabrics.

And the Hummingbird Floral-print Etta pump with glitter heels are an absolute stunning combination that will be hard to go without.  But then again, that little minaudière would be a treasured piece for many years to come!

In fact, I want virtually every piece in the collection.  But at J.Crew’s inflated “Collection” prices, I may have to just choose one!

Daily Covet: Lilly Pulitzer Charlene Dress in Stripes

I know it’s only early January, but Spring Fever is kicking in hard core.

I’m tired of knee boots, jeans, turtlenecks and heavy coats already.  I’m really wanting to wear lightweight dresses and sandals or flip flops, open-toed shoes and bright-colored shorts.

Obviously, there are a few months — even after the snow is gone for good — that sleeves and heavier fabrics are still in order.  That’s why this adorable striped Lilly Pulitzer Charlene Dress would be the perfect transition to warmer weather and shorter hemlines.

Daily Covet: Trina Turk Velvet Shorts

Shorts were a staple in my fifth grade fall wardrobe.  I had tweed versions, wool flannel versions, corduroy versions.  I wore them with button down oxfords and argyle sweater vests.

A few seasons ago, cold-weather shorts came back.  Shorts in sequins.  Shorts in satin.  Shorts in leather.  And now these gorgeous shorts in rich, merlot-colored velvet.

I’ve been a fan of Trina Turk for a long time, and love the L.A. brand for it’s signature funky prints.

But these lucious velvet shorts make me think “twist” on the usual holiday dressing.  I love how they are shown here with a feminine blouse and dressy cardigan, but I can also see them dressed down with a chunky cowl-neck sweater and fun flats.

These are oh so irresistable!

Daily Covet: The Thrill of Twill

Twill shorts from Old Navy are on my list today.

These shorts come in assorted prints and colors, and would be an inexpensive staple for this woman’s wardrobe.

Pair shorts with prints (see blog on that!) or pack them with plain, white tees for minimal luggage on vacation.

What’s more?  Get them for under $20!

My Paying Gig: Pair Prints Successfully

Prints are an important fashion trend this this year, and the fall collections are no exception.  Designers, shop windows and fashionistas alike are showing and wearing bold prints with other prints.
