Daily Covet: A Pergola

You might find this so random, but today I am coveting a Pergola.

We had the lovliest time on the back deck of some friend’s of ours last night. They had little round lights outlining the deck, which provided the perfect amount of ambient lighting for late night cocktails on a hot, summer night.

We too, have a fabulous outdoor space for entertaining and while it’s practically perfect in every way, I have this vision for a gorgeous pergola to semi-cover our patio.  I want it to be strung with little white lights and maybe even have a ceiling fan to keep us cool when it gets beastly hot in August.

I also want it to have the same ivy growing in and around it just like I have crawling up the walls of my home.

What an outdoor paradise in the canopy of tiny lights and lush greenery!

This one is absolutely gorgeous and is like adding square footage to your living space. But maybe too-muchy like being in your family room.

I love the lights and the chandalier, presumably with votives for extra mood lighting.

But this space is absolutely UH-MAZING! I must admit however, that it may not be just the pergola that has me so in love… it might also be the stone patio and the table for dining al fresco.

Daily Covet: Light the Way

I often rejoice and lamment characteristics of our old house.  Today, I will lament.  You have been forewarned.

Our living room is my favorite room in the house.  We entertain there, we put our feet up there at night when the kids go to bed, we spruce it up for the holidays with the bulk of our decor and it’s the one room I attempt to protect from my children, by constantly screaming at them about how much everything in there cost me.

The downside.  Downside?  There is no overhead light.  You have to be sitting practically on top of one of two lamps to read, even oversized print.  I want so badly to have overhead lighting.  An electrician once told us that it would be a feat to put a fixture in the middle of the room, as he’d have to cut into the crown molding… (and I heard blah, blah, beautiful lighting, blah, blah, blah…)  Afterall, in the good words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.”

So I keep looking at fixtures anyway.  I mean it’s not impossible to put it in… it would just be a hassle.  A hassle I’d be willing for my electrician to endure, for this sophisticated AND CHEAP chandelier!
