We love that the Guggenheim Museum is blazing trails towards the future with a mission to find the world’s most gifted contemporary artists. Their first undertaking in their new MAP global art initiative opens today and shines a spotlight on the best and brightest artists working across Southeast Asia today. The incredible diverse works in the exhibition reflect the history, politics and censorship that many of the 22 artists and collectives live with.
With incredible pieces like “Love Bed” a sculpture of an exquisite metallic bed made entirely out of razor blades and paper clips by artist Tayeba Begum Lipi, this exhibition is a fascinating glance at the vibrant world of contemporary art in a part of the world we are not used to seeing in New York. All the works in the exhibition have been acquired by the Guggenheim as part of their permanent collection.
