Daily Covet: The perfect denim shirt

Button down shirts are really hard for me. I’m convinced all of them have the buttons in the wrong place because regardless of how big I get them to fit nicely in the bust, they are baggy everywhere else and gap in all the wrong (or right, if you’re my husband) places.

I have an awesome denim shirt that I bought at the Gap on Lakeshore Drive when I lived in Oakland. It has a slight western flair to it with the tell-tale yoke and pointed pockets. It also has a hint of stretch and princess seams for excellent shaping. But since I’ve had children, it’s never quite fit the same (not that I’m losing hope!)

So, I’m on the hunt for the perfect denim shirt for a girl who has a little more up front. Because what can’t you wear a denim shirt with?! **For full shopping info, visit my polyvore page.

Daily Covet: Ralph Lauren Wool Cashmere Poncho

Let’s face it, ponchos have come a long way since their vintage sisters made their way onto the style scene.

This Ralph Lauren Wool – keyword Cashmere – poncho looks so cozy and warm and perfect for fall.

I’d pair it with knee boots and jeans or or a wool mini skirt. I’d totally wear it to the pumpkin patch with my kiddos or to run errands in high style. It’s such an easy piece, I could throw it on to get the mail or pick the kids up from school. And it comes in gray and olive – the first I have loved always and the second is my new favorite neutral.

Like most things I love, it’d go almost anywhere!

Daily Covet: J.Crew Barrett Suede Ankle Boot

Is it fall yet? I mean, no one loves summer more than I do, but if we can’t be sleeping in, playing at the pool or going on vacation – bring on the cooler temps already!

I’d also like to pull out my fall wardrobe and start picking out some nice investment pieces to get me through the year, if not the next few. These J.Crew Barrett suede ankle boots are totally gorgeous and the fact that they come in navy (black and grey too!) was super exciting for me.

Navy is the new black, after all! (Follow me and get shopping info on lilblacksweats on Polyvore.com)

My paying gig: Do you practice “gift parity?”

Remember a few weeks ago when I blogged about needing gift ideas for a close-in-age, same-sex sibling?

It all started when I was trying to keep things “even.”  Because in my guilty mother’s conscience, I am positive the infraction of too few gifts for one will somehow damage his existence.  Read more on Momaha.com today.

Daily Covet: My covet fire needs a little “Kindle”-ing!

Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device, Amazon.com $189

I love to read.  I usually have a stack of unread books next to my bedside just waiting to be cracked open.

There are times though, when I really want to read a book that someone has mentioned or possibly one that I’ve read a review for and I can’t remember what it was by the time I finally get to the bookstore.

It sure would be nice to grab my Kindle and order it up, right then and there!

Daily Covet: My home needs a new facade

Front porch decor compliments of Pottery Barn, porch not for sale.

Some time ago, my then three-year-old commented on a picture of a very posh little home office space in the Pottery Barn Catalog.  He said matter of factly, “I wish we lived there.”  Funny, I thought and decided that I too wished we lived there.

Well, now I’m wishing this was the front of my home as it would look for the holidays… again compliments of Pottery Barn.  While my home has wonderful curb appeal in the spring, summer and early fall – it looks barren and dead by the time Christmas rolls around.  Columns for wrapping green boughs around?  Sadly a cold, brick porch with a wrought iron railing….  Window boxes for stacking greenery, big bulbs or other holiday gimcracks?  No window boxes… only chocolate brown trim on our one asymmetrical window.  Loads of windows for adorable little white glowing candles?  Again the asymmetry of this home makes it very hard to decorate as lights, candles, decorations would all be located on one side.

I realize this is probably a fake front porch but I do sometimes wish I had grand old home with columns or a huge front porch so that I could decorate ’til my hearts content.  But who are we kidding?  I’ve barely managed to get out the decorations for the space that I do have!
