Daily Covet: The Blanket Coat

You know you’ve seen them everywhere… I mean everywhere. And it’s occurred to me that it’s crazy these haven’t been a fashion staple since the beginning of time.

They are amazingly warm, comfortable and hide all your problem areas without looking frumpy. But how do you wear a fab blanket coat/shawl/cape without it looking like a Snuggie from the late-night infomercials?

How about like this? When paired with leather(ish) leggings and high-heeled boots, what could look all Catholic-school girly is now super chic and adds great proportion – which makes your legs look longer and leaner!

Or get your cozy on for a morning commute when paired with gray flannel slacks and matching shooties. A blanket coat is all you’ll need for color and warmth. Just give this ensemble some extra shape by belting it high on your waist – again making your legs look longer!

Want your blanket coat to perform exactly as it was made to? Pair it with a creamy cable-knit sweater, some distressed boyfriend jeans and some equally cozy boots for a laid-back weekend look that will make you look super put-together in a this-is-how-I-look-with-no-effort kind of look.

How about you – do you love or detest the blanket coat? What’s your favorite way to wear it?

Daily Covet: Anthropologie Nocturne Cowlneck Sweater

‘Tis the season for pulling out your fabulous collection of the coziest sweaters. If you’re like me, you’ve already taken inventory of your softest sweaters in an effort to decide who will stay and who will go.

I’ll admit, I have a few “favorites” that are so much not my favorites anymore that I need to consign or donate them to make room for new favorites…

And that brings us to new favorites, which include this totally gorge Nocturne Cowlneck from Anthropologie. The chunky knit pullover from Margaux Lonnberg not only features my favorite clothing color (navy is the new black after all), but it’s also from France, which means this Francophile should probably have it, if for no other reason.

But the coolest part of this totally fab sweater is the slouchy, unfussy, totally not-working-too-hard cowlneck collar. What a versatile piece for this years navy and gray-heavy wardrobe options.

Daily Covet: Tory Burch Satin Smoking Slippers

I love all the holiday-esque fabrics and colors that the designers are offering this time of year.

Tory Burch has a rather extensive collection of smoking slippers this season and I’m in love with these Tory Burch Mayada satin slippers. I love the rich emerald color and bedazzled-ness of them – not to mention they’d go with my entire wardrobe. (Black pants, black sweaters, black skirts and black dresses!)

These would be absolutely lovely on a festive neighborhood walk, at a holiday party or for Christmas dinner. And if green isn’t your thing – try out the most royal looking slippers you’ve ever seen in purple!

Daily Covet: Prabal Gurung Bow Front Top

To say my tastes in fashion are eclectic is an understatement. Schizophrenic might be a better term.

If you don’t believe me, take a gander at my last post about boyfriend jeans.

But not a lot of choices could be less boy and more girly-girl than this ice blue bow front top from Prabal Gurung (a fave for sure!) It showed up in a Harper’s Bazaar article about boob-minimizing tops – their words, not mine. While I would like a little minimizing from time to time, it’s the asymmetry and pseudo-ruching that I love. The peplum with skinny black pants or a pencil skirt would be gorge on just about any body type.

And Prabal Gurung is just one in a long list of designers you’ll be seeing ice blue from this fall/winter. Doesn’t hurt that blue happens to be one of my most favorite colors. I love all shades – navy to the palest shade of blue, so it’s no wonder this top jumped off the page at me.

Now, how to finance it… hmmm.

Daily Covet: Rag & Bone Dre in Bradford Jeans

It’s time for jeans. New Jeans.

Last year, I was two days out from giving birth and still in the “little black sweats” phase of post-pregnancy. I wasn’t even thinking about wearing my old jeans… much less close to fitting into them.

This year, I’m still a few pounds away, but hey it’s only July (almost August.) But there is an end in sight and to celebrate I’d love to invest in a hot, new pair of I’ll-look-fabulous-most-days-in-these-jeans jeans.

I have a few pairs of fab jeans already… a really, lovely worn-in-perfectly pair of Joe’s boot-cut jeans. I have two great pairs of dark skinny jeans. And I also have a great pair of low rise, frayed jeans, which are the original Seven for All Mankind when they weren’t made in China… buuuut, I might be a little further from wearing those.

I do not, however, own a cool pair of boyfriend jeans with the perfect fade. That’s why these Rag & Bone jeans are perfect for this girl on the hunt for jeans!

But honestly, jean schmean, I’d take just about anything Rag & Bone has to offer! #newfavedesigner

Daily Covet: Chloé vs. Marc Jacobs Crossbody Bag

I have been wanting the perfect crossbody bag for a long time.

I don’t need a small bag often, but sometimes my outfit just calls for something somewhat casual, but still polished enough to wear for a night out.

This Chloé Marcie crossbody bag has been on my want list for a long, long time. Sadly, at this price point, it’ll probably stay there much longer.

This great Marc Jacobs bag, however, is far more reasonable. I love the detailing on the closure and while, I don’t love it in black, I do adore it in this bright blue color. And since I wear so much black and navy anyway, it’d be great to have a pop!
